While the U.S. military was gearing up for a battle in Iraq, CONFLICT: DESERT STORM's developers were putting the finishing touches on what turns out to be an engaging but slightly generic game. Although the game is set in Iraq during the first Gulf War, it has little to do with the actual conflict or with any of the historical events of the war. The player is dropped in the desert alone and must elude or kill multiple Iraqi soldiers before rescuing a soldier from an Iraqi prison. That soldier is the beginning of a four-person team that will go on to other missions.

Conflict: Global Terror's single-player campaign involves a lengthy, 14-mission campaign that will take you all around the globe, from steamy South American jungles to snowy Himalayan mountain passes, on over to the streets of South Korea. Each mission takes place on a fairly large map, and you'll need to complete a series of objectives (that often change midmission) in order to complete the level. Each mission can take quite a while to complete, but the size of the level is only part of the reason why. One issue is that the game doesn't include autosave checkpoints. You're given a limited number of save games per mission, and you'll need to use these judiciously. The problem is that you don't know how each mission is going to play out ahead of time--so you may end up holding onto your save-game chances for too long, and put yourself in a bad position later in a mission because you're running low on ammunition or health packs. Conversely, if you use up all your save games up front, you may find yourself wishing you saved one or two when some unforeseen tough spots come up at the tail end of a long mission. This type of guessing game can result in a number of extra mission restarts, making the game a little more frustrating than it needs to be.
The squad based shooter Conflict: Global Terror is the fourth installment in the Conflict series. The game is vastly enhanced over the previous Conflict games with new graphics, missions, weapons, and features. The missions are based on modern day Counter-Terrorism Operations spanning across the globe with different fictional terror groups. As in any global fight on terror you must put an end to tyranny and prevent terrorists from destabilizing the world. Your squad is no stranger to combat and in Conflict: Global Terror you'll battle the new terror force 'March 33' descendents from the ODESSA Nazis. Many gamers would think that this being the fourth game in the series, it might be some of the same old game play. Well Conflict: Global Terror is not the case. New improvements make this a pretty decent and enjoyable squad based shooter.
Conflict: Global Terror has some sore points like no auto save, and a terrible grenade implementation but I must say this game is quite fun. In many instances I kept telling myself, "just five more minutes." From a military aspect, it's fairly accurate, and the storyline is written well. I definitely think Conflict veterans need to grab this title, and for Conflict rookies its a game that must be sampled. I recommend this game to military enthusiasts everywhere. You'll find yourself playing more and more each time. Sure, Conflict: Global Terror is not a perfect game, but it keeps you entertained. It is worth a try and a decent addition to any military collection.
Unlike the sort of counter-terrorist operations we see on, say, 24, where one sweaty man and his mates down the pub cause all manner of world-threatening craziness, the March 33 mob in Conflict Global Storm number in their thousands. In one of CGS's 14 missions you'll often encounter in excess of 150 enemies in the 30-45 minutes it usually takes to inch your way through the chaos. Even at a conservative estimate, that's about three enemy encounters per minute, although it's usually much more than that - it's the old calm-before-the-(conflict global) storm syndrome.
After griping about the AI and nodding sagely about the controls, is it really that bad a game? Well, no. If you stop and accept the game for what it is, and play by its rules, as opposed to the rules you think it should have, then it's another Conflict game you can chip away at over 10/12 hours and feel fairly satisfied. The limited save mechanic, we feel, strikes the right balance between being able to save anywhere, and forcing you to be a disciplined player. As a consequence, it does heighten the tension of creeping into uncharted territory, and probably makes it a much more compelling game than the procession it would turn into if you could simply save anywhere, as often as you like.
Jones is the only character to have a significantly different character model between the Conflict: Desert storm and Conflict: Global storm games. In the Desert storm games, he looks to be one of the oldest members of the team and dons a unique combat helmet for every mission save ones in which he is a prisoner of war.
